Walking for exercise

As I posted not long ago, I've been getting a lot more exercise since I separated from monsieur & moved back in with my dad.  I've been trying to walk or bicycle every day, and I do get out there most days, although I am really a very lazy person & I've missed a few!  Anyway, I've been noticing that walking uses more muscles than biking.  I can feel it in my back, my abdomen, my bottom, etc.  But when I'm biking, I feel like I'm really only using my legs.  I also found a great article in an old issue of Cooking Light magazine about exercises you can add to a walk to get even more benefits out of it -- I'm not ready for that yet, but I hope to be soon!

So anyway, I'm writing this because I wanted to post some resources for anyone else who is interested in walking as a form of exercise.  Both of these look pretty good:

I'm also going to start doing some light weight-lifting this week -- my arms have never been strong, and I really need to work on them.  I found some good information & descriptions of exercises here:

http://weighttraining.about.com/

Please write me if you have other good resources to share, or if you're also trying to get more exercise & want a kind of online exercise buddy to help you stay motivated.  I know when I have to account to somebody, I get more done, so it would probably help me a lot.

Oh, that reminds me -- I have another Web site that I LOVE: Joe's Goals.  You can set up positive or negative goals and check tasks off as you complete them, and it really does help.  You can make your goals public so they can be shared, which might be helpful if we got a little group going!

I get good workouts when I walk the two miles home with my 500 lb backpack. It is really good exercise though. I like to walk a little every day. I always feel better after I do so.

I meant to add... so does my dog. Good bonding time. :)

Yeah, it would help a lot if I could walk my dog. I can't wait to get him back! Maybe I should start a dog-walking business . . . ?

That would be fun! I'm sure people too busy with work to walk their dogs would like it.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking. Plus I would probably get paid in cash & wouldn't have to fuss with taxes & all that.

So you'd get to be around dogs, get exercise, and get paid doing it. I say go for it.
